This section of my portfolio features custom designed and crafted dining chairs, side chairs, benches and sofas.
Each of these pieces were designed to meet the specific aesthetic and physical requirements of the customer. The dining chairs pair with the dining tables I build. The other items stand on their own.
While they may look simple, seating items are one of the hardest furniture pieces to make. Many factors need to be considered to ensure strength, comfort and visual balance. Many seating components are curved, which results in lots of hand work. Another factor is repeatability. It’s one thing to make one chair, it’s another thing to make a set of identical chairs.
Like all my work, a key goal with my seating projects is to highlight the natural beauty of the wood. Additionally these items most often feature curves, which I find particularly rewarding.
