Tops and Shelves
The function of the tools I use and how they work are explained here. Specific tools used are noted in bold.
The tops are made by glueing two boards edge to edge. The resulting wider board is sanded to a consistent thickness in the wide belt sander. The top and shelf shapes are traced on the wood using templates. They are cut to rough dimension on the bandsaw, and then trimmed to the template lines using the disk sander. Domino slots are cut using the multi-router. A round-over bit in the router table is used to round over the majority of the bottom. Where the tops and shelves meet the legs, the round-over is carved by hand using rasps.
