Veneering
The function of the tools I use and how they work are explained here. Specific tools used are noted in bold.
The table tops and shelves are veneered in kawazingo (also known as bubinga) wood. The rotary cut veneer has a very three-dimensional waterfall grain pattern. The process for making veneer is fascinating. See this YouTube for an overview. The veneer is cut to shape using scissors. Glue is rolled onto the tops and shelves, which are then placed in a vacuum bag. An air pump evacuates the air, resulting in atmospheric pressure clamping the veneed to the tops and shelves while the glue dries. After gluing, the edges of the veneer are trimmed flush and the veneer is sanded.
