Making the Base

The function of the tools I use and how they work are explained here. Specific tools used are noted in bold.

The base is made of layers of ¾” medium density fibreboard (MDF). This provides the mass needed to stabilize the table. Multiple layers of MDF are glued together in the vacuum press. The arcs are drawn using a flexible fiberglass drawing bow. Changing the tension on the bow results in varying arc shapes and radiuses. The arcs are cut on the bandsaw and smoothed with the edge sander, compass plane, and hand sanding. Low spots are filled with fiberglass puddy.
