Sanding

Sanding is an important but not so glamorous step. The table is sanded in multiple steps. The first steps are orbital sanding at 100 then 150 grit, followed by a 180 grit hand sand. Then it is orbital sanded at 220 grit. Before each sand step pencil lines are drawn across the surface. This ensures that the sanding is done consistently and thoroughly. Once the lines are sanded away, that area is complete. A bright light is shown across the surface at an acute angle, which highlights any imperfections. After the 220 machine sand, the surface is wiped down with a wet cloth. This raises the grain slightly and visually highlights any imperfections. After drying the final 220 grid hand sand is performed.
